The turquoise Humantay Lagoon took its name from the (Humantay snow-capped mountain, 5,473 meters above sea level) and is considered one of the most beautiful and sacred lagoons in Cusco. It is a must visit for every adventurous visitor who is a nature lover. Laguna Humantay is located at a distance of 120 km, from the city of Cusco, passing through the towns of Limatambo and Mollepata, until reaching the community of Soraypampa.
Once you arrive at Soraypampa, you begin the uphill walk of about 2 km until you reach the lagoon.
Upon arriving at Humantay we will enjoy the beautiful view where you can take photos of this magnificent lagoon, the guide will explain to you about the place and then you will have free time for your own experience.
Then begin the descent hike to Soraypampa and travel to Mollepata where lunch awaits. After this we will return to Cusco and we will leave you in the central area.
ITINERARY
- This Tour begins with pickup from your hotel at approximately 04:00hrs to begin an unforgettable one-day tour to the “Humantay Lagoon”.
- Next, we board the transport and take a trip for two and a half hours to the town of Mollepata where breakfast awaits.
- After breakfast, the trip continues to the town of Soraypampa.
- From this place the walk begins for an hour and a half to two hours until reaching the Humantay Lagoon where you can see impressive landscapes that amaze the visitor’s eyes. Then you have free time to take photos or activities of your own interest.
- Then begin the descent walk and return to Mollepata where lunch awaits. Later, the return transportation to the city of Cusco is boarded. Arriving at the city center at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Can I get to Humantay on my own?
Of course you can, and below we will explain what you should do:
- You must go to the bus station and take public transportation from the city of Cusco to the town of Mollepata. The bus leaves from the Arcopata terminal and costs around 20 soles (5 USD).
- Arriving in Mollepata, you must take a collective taxi to the community of Soraypampa.
You may not be able to find one of these collective taxis, so you will have to take a regular taxi. In this case, the taxi can cost 50 soles (approximately 15 USD). - Arriving at Soraypampa, you have to walk a distance of about 2Km to the Humantay Lagoon, depending on the walking pace, it can take between 1 to 2 hours.
- It is a very beautiful experience, but it is only recommended to do it on your own if you are used to hiking at altitude, because it can be exhausting at 4,200 meters above sea level.
How much does the entrance to the lagoon cost?
- The entrance is paid in the town of Mollepata and this allow you access to the Soraypampa camp, where the lagoon is located. The fee for foreign visitors is 10 soles (3.5 USD)
What to do, in Humantay Lagoon?
- Camping
Very close to the snow-capped lagoon, there is an eco-camp where you can stay to appreciate the sunrise and sunset, and have more time to explore the area. In this case, it is recommended to bring warm clothing to withstand the cold when camping. - Horseback riding
The inhabitants of the Soraypampa community rent horses for the ascent to Humantay Lagoon. Although the service is only available for the ascending sections and has a price of 90 Peruvian soles (30 USD).
What is the best season to visit Humantay Lagoon?
- It is considered that during the dry season, which extends from May to mid-October, it is better because there are sunny days that allow you to appreciate a spectacular landscape and take clearer photos of the turquoise-blue lagoon.
Humantay Lagoon can be visited all year round, although during the rainy season there are fewer tourists.
